A #1 hit on the Billboard Charts and Mediabase for her single “Love Me Like You Mean It” , an RIAA Gold certification for the same single, a Video Music Award corespondent for Perez Hilton , and while announcing the Country Music Award nominations with Steven Tyler, was nominated herself for New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, what can’t Kelsea Ballerini do?
Through all of the success surrounding her debut album, “The First Time,” this Knoxville, Tennessee native remains humble and grateful.
She told Taste of Country, “We’re just young people in this town that have no business having a ton of success yet…People work their whole lives and never get to do what we’ve already been fortunate to do.”
Music and songwriting have both been a part of Ballerini’s life for as long as she can remember. She started songwriting at 12 and states being a part of her high school choir was one of the most influential parts of her life.
“Love Me Like You Mean It” is a song that screams confidence, but to Ballerini it’s just a good reminder.
“I sing these songs not because I’m confident, but because I have to remind myself to be.”
Gaining accolades from country stars such as Little Big Town, Maddie & Tae, Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott and Carrie Underwood have Ballerini feeling in good company. Even at a time when there seems to be an under representation of female country artists on the airwaves, Ballerini doesn’t seem phased by the pressure.
“I’m ready to keep getting more music out there.”
And we’re eager to hear it. Come see Kelsea Ballerini at The Grand on Thursday, September 17 at 7:30 PM.
