Keep Hung’er Movin’ with the “Raisin Great Kids” Healthy Snack Drive

The Grand Theater, in partnership with the Marathon County Hunger Coalition, will host the “Raisin Great Kids” Healthy Snack Drive in The Grand Theater’s Great Hall prior to the May 10th performance of Manitowoc Minute’s Charlie Berens: Keep ‘er Movin’.

Part of The Grand’s Community Engagement Series, this event encourages donations of raisins, fruit cups, nuts or seeds, applesauce, and other healthy snacks to be distributed to local school-based food pantries. Each item donated will earn audience members one raffle ticket for a chance to win Manitowoc Minute merchandise.

Ticket-holders can drop off their donations in the Great Hall of The Grand before the show, from 6:30-7:30 PM on Thursday, May 10. Community members who are not attending the show but still wish to donate can drop of items at The Grand’s Ticket Office from 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM on May 10.

The Marathon County Hunger Coalition is seeking snack- or individual-sized packages of non-perishable healthy snack items such as:

  • Raisins/Craisins
  • Other dried fruits
  • Fruit cups (in real fruit juice)
  • Nuts or seeds
  • “GoGo Squeez,” yogurt, or applesauce

The Marathon County Hunger Coalition, an initiative of United Way, works tirelessly to expand, identify, promote, and implement long-term sustainable solutions to the problem of hunger in our county. The Grand is excited to work with the Hunger Coalition to help improve food security in Marathon County, especially for our area’s youth.

“We are happy to partner with both the Marathon County Hunger Coalition and Charlie Berens to address hunger in our community,” said The Grand’s Executive Director Sean Wright. “We know our patrons will give generously in support of this endeavor.”

Charlie Berens, the Emmy-winning journalist, comedian, actor, host, and creator of the viral video series “Manitowoc Minute” was eager to get involved with the project.

“You can’t keep ‘er movin’ if you don’t got da energy. And ya can’t get da energy without healthy food,” said the always-in-character Charlie Berens. “So, Wausau, let’s donate some healthy food real quick and help those in need keep ‘er movin. As always, Go Packers…”

Limited seating for the Manitowoc Minute’s Charlie Berens: Keep ‘er Movin’ show is still available. Tickets are available online at grandtheater.org, by phone at 715-842-0988, or at the Ticket Office at 401 N. Fourth St. in Downtown Wausau.
